The National Household Sample Survey (PNAD) questionnaire was tested last week with part of the population living in the rural area of Magé, a municipality in the state of Rio de Janeiro. IBGE technicians detected the need of improvement in the conduction of the survey, in order to optimize questionnaire completion and allow the adjustment of some questions.

Marcia Vargas, supervisor of the IBGE’s Department of Labor and Income team, says this initiative is important because difficulties found in the field must be considered in the question formulation phase: “The main objective is give those technicians engaged in the elaboration and update of the questionnaire, an overall view of the PNAD operation. So it will be possible to conduct a survey that is in tune with the population’s life.

The test also reinforced IBGE’s commitment with data confidentiality and the protection of individualized information. One of the interviewees from the local community was Margarida Virgínia da Silva, known as Guida, age 69, who has taken care of her crops for almost 48 years. She says there is no reason for fear of sharing information. “I always answer those questions. I know every data collection agent is doing their share”.
